The guest house reveal

Home Tour, room tour, Styling

Let me start off with a big thank you thank you for following our guest house progress and sharing in our excitement of getting this space done over on my Instagram stories!! If you love seeing BTS and following the process, and the ins and outs of our home renovation journey, that’s the place to follow along because I share the process there in real time. And if you wanna feel better about the messy state your house might be in, yeah, check out what we have going on in our home! Haha! We are not neat people when tackling projects, I have to admit!  But we get it done, so it’s all good!

So who’s ready for the guest house reveal??

Affiliate links are contained in this post and as always, all thought and opinions are my own.

Welcome to our little casita right off the main house.

Right when you enter, you’re greeted with this warm and inviting view.  That gorgeous Troy Lighting chandelierthe Loloi vintage styled rug and those buttery leather benches are the first things that catch my eye! Is that the first thing you see?

Before we go on, let’s take a look at the before of this space.

The walls were a beige color, the carpets were gross and glued down real good which made the process take twice as long as what we expected, and the ceiling lights and fan had to be switched out.

We painted the walls the same color we painted my home office in Behr Polar Bear. I think this is a crisp white with a yellow undertone so it’s not a stark white. I like to pair it with Behr Ultra Pure white on the trim for a little contrast. The walls are an eggshell finish and the trim are semi-gloss.

I was so excited when I stumbled across this laminate flooring at Lowes. It’s a light oak with a nice organic mix of wood tones that I love with some grays which gives this modern organic vibe I just love. It has a low gloss,  and really reminds me of french oak hardwood. I also really loved this and this engineered hardwood flooring that is perfect for that modern coastal california casual look.

This table is perfect for having a seat to eat, get on a lap top or play a card game. The table is no longer available but I did link this similar table that you can view down at the bottom of this post. We didn’t get around to adding a built in bench here and is still something we’re considering but that’s going to have to wait. We also had plans of adding wall sconces and a woven shade to that window but since we didn’t get to that, I decided to steal those two floating shelves that have been waiting to be hung in the powder bath in the house instead. Floating shelves instantly make a blank wall interesting!

Gallery walls have the same effect of adding interest! I’ve had these brass frames since our last house and glad to find its new home here in the guest house.

The sofa we went with in here is the Soderhamn line from Ikea and used these Bemz sofa covers in Rosendal Pure Washed Linen Unbleached to give them a custom look. If you haven’t heard of this company, they make custom covers to fit Ikea furniture using high end fabrics to transform your Ikea pieces to your personal liking! All their covers are made to order in Europe and took about 3 weeks to arrive.

We used the covers for the 3 seat sofa, the chaise, and ottoman. We chose the relaxed urban fit because it really does give that elegant yet relaxed look I crave. I also love the natural color of the fabric, it just feels so earthy and chill!

I thought these pillows would be perfect in here, giving an organic and warm feel. It really pairs well with the gorgeous colors in the rug! The pillows are a mix of  Tonic Living, Ikea, and Willow Bloom Home. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to shop the pillows.

And speaking of rug, I am so obsessed with this rug. I had no idea how pretty the rug would be in real life. It’s so affordable and a lot better quality than expected. It’s on the thinner side which is perfect for layering. I layered it with this rug I already owned.

I first discovered this chandelier in Anissa’s @housesevendesign home. I absolutely loved the slight curves on it and the modern take on a traditional chandelier. It really is a gorgeous piece and I personally think it works great in small spaces with the soft slightly curvy lines making it easy on the eyes and not at all aggressive. Does that make sense? It just spoke to me that way, like, hey girl, I’d look pretty sexy in your guest house. Done and done…

The gorgeous Magnolia clippings came from our yard and I really can’t get enough!

The tv cabinet was originally from RH but I scored it on Facebook Marketplace. I have had my eye on that tv cabinet for a few years but thankfully never bought it til I found this great deal.

You can see right next to the tv is a little entry shelf and mirror to drop keys and give your self a quick face check on your way out. I replicated this from our last house and shared a fun post all about creating an entryway in a small space here

Here’s a closer look at the leather benches. It is very similar to a very popular one floating around IG and Pinterest at twice the price, but when I saw these, I immediately knew the finish of these would be perfect in here. And sure enough, they are the perfect accent seats and great for extra seating.

That ladder was another great find and is a splurge but I really love the height of it, the finish of the wood and the dipped legs. The throw draped on it was a beautiful surprise! It totally looks like an Anthropologie throw, but nope it’s Target and it’s currently on sale!

This coffee table was a TJMaxx find that reminded me a lot of the Anthro table I’ve had my eye on for a long time but a lot more affordable. I saw it’s not currently available but did link similar ones down at the bottom of the post.

Can we talk about that curvy, large and in charge, charcoal vase?! I have been eyeing this vase and really wanted a large vase for this table, that is interesting but will stand the test of time: in quality and design. And this vase is it! Sitting next to it is one of my current fave Agape candles

Okay, this makes me laugh, but the corner of the guest house that really frustrated me the most has become my favorite little corner since looking back at these photos. If you follow my IG stories on the guest house, you know this is the corner we plan on making a kitchenette space. With the kitchen renovation in the main house happening, we had to wait on the kitchenette. But man, this little situation is making me think I could keep it like this for a while!

So instead, we kept this natural bookshelf here to use for storage and for our coffee station, and moved the ottoman right here where it fits like a glove! And it sure turned out pretty! Totally a beautiful surprise! Above it is a cute quote I stumbled on here and is a free printable.

I just recently got those amber jars and gosh, they really just pull that gorgeous color in the rug and the leather benches! So glad I added these in at the last minute because it really keeps that nice warm flow!

I’ve also had that Espresso machine (currently on sale here) for over a year now and love it. We always use these pods for them because it comes in a variety pack and tastes so good!

There you have it, our guest house reveal! I will be sharing the bathroom with you as soon as we get a few other touches done in there. As well as when we get to our kitchenette progress!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I’ll be right here working on the next post! Hope you enjoyed a look into our guest house reveal. Before you leave, come say hi below! I’d love to know you were here! And while you’re at it, make sure to subscribe to the blog if you aren’t already!

I I just discovered you! I love your space. Love how you took a small blank canvas in this guest house and made it so multiple purpose, impressive. And still very light bright and airy. Your shelf above your sofa just inspired me to do the same in one of my spaces. It’s funny I see this shelf a lot, but I never thought to do it for my space until now! I am super excited to get started. Where did you get the shelf above the sofa? I didn’t see it at the bottom of this post

Aww so glad you found me, thank you!! Sorry I missed this. The shelf above the sofa are 2 picture ledges from ikea pushed together to make one big one!

Hi! I live in the Bay Area as well (Alamo) and we are in the process of building an ADU. What builder did you use? Thank you. Love the design. Well done.

Thanks! It’s also interesting that you can be nominated for a free makeover. Your friends and family might be able to tell an inspiring story and make producers select your home for a makeover. Many non-profit organization have free home renovation programs. It’s worth a try, maybe 🙂
