Who’s fallen victim to starting a project, pausing because another project is more important, and then the same old drama happens another 2-3 times and before you know it, a whole month passes by with zero progress on the initial project you started! Yes, we totally treated the guest house like a second class citizen. But in our defense, we realized it really wouldn’t get used much until the weather got warmer. Okay, that totally was an excuse! Ugh, we really need to finish projects before starting new ones!
So far we’ve updated the bathroom, but still have plans of putting up a shower. We also laid flooring and painted all the walls. We still have some things left to do, but for now, I thought I’d share our plans for the living space. Though it’s what we call a guest house or casita, we don’t have any plans of adding a bed in here anytime soon. It gets way too cold and the source of heat and air is those small little portable heat/air that sticks out in the wall (which I have plans of hiding for design purposes) and that thing uses a crazy amount of energy so for now, it’s solely a hangout spot for the kids and will hopefully get used more once the weather gets warmer.
Mood Board
We are almost set and so close to styling and photographing the space but are currently looking for window shades and torn on what to go with. We’d love to get some that are affordable and great quality because I know it’s out there. Let me know if there is a company you’d recommend!

So what do you think of the design the guest house is headed in? I really love the color palette in this space and the mix of dark wood, blacks, and some brass, but still very much neutrals and organic; very earthy even, which is all what I’m drawn to lately.
Before shot and Progress Pic
Above: This is how the house looked like right before we moved in.
Right: Here’s the guest house after we painted, put in new flooring and added in baseboards that were a little different than your usual base boards because 2 walls had a cemented bump out (totally not the actual term for it, I’m sure). But after Jason worked his magic, you can’t even tell! Of course I styled it a little while we waited for more permanent pieces to arrive.
Stay Tuned!
I can’t wait to share the guest house living space reveal, followed by the guest house bathroom reveal, and eventually the kitchenette plans and reveal when we get to it! For now, hope you found some inspiration and enjoyed the design! I’d love to stay connected. If you like that idea, subscribe via email found on the right of this page!
