Progress with our DIY shed /chicken coop build + my new favorite deep muted green paint color

home sweet home

If you have been following on my IG stories, we’ve been working on our outdoor space the last few months and one thing we are currently working on is finishing up our shed that Jason built a few months ago. We took a major pause on the last details because of course we like to do multiple projects at once and the little details had to wait. But you guys, we got chickens and a couple ducks. Who are we?! But seriously, it’s been so much fun!

There’s still some work left to be done out here like paint the raised planter beds, touch up paint on both the shed and coop, add a window and light to the coop, and hopefully eventually paint the fence. Even still, I’m so excited to share the progress in here and happy that we have finally got around to doing the fun part: painting the doors, installing the outdoor wall sconces and adding some cute planters to both side of the doors.

Let’s talk paint colors!

I knew I wanted the doors to be a deeper moody muted green and honestly we winged it while we were at the store. No testing first, we just went with our gut. I grabbed these 4 swatches: Cypress Vine, Patio Stone, Black Bamboo, and Night Mission. Can you guess which one we actually went with for the doors?… If you guessed Black Bamboo, you’re right!! We used the Behr Ultra formula in matte/flat. We painted our whole exterior BM Swiss Coffee and did a color match with the same Behr Ultra in matte/flat. We were so close to going with another color, but at the last second, right before they were about to mix the color, I stopped them and felt like Black Bamboo was the better choice. So glad I did, because this color pairs so well with the white we went with and is an awesome deep and muted green.

You can see a peak at our chicken coop Jason just built last week. And yes the Almafied home has officially started a little farm. Haha not really. We have some chicks and a few ducks and are learning as we go. We also added 3 raised garden beds which you can see a little of today. I’m still debating on what to paint it but need to decide soon. I’m thinking black but not sure if that will be too dark for me. Anyway, the beds are currently growing herbs and seem to be doing well.

We went with pea gravel all around this area. It was affordable and classic and perfect for our wannabe farm life 😉 Jason has been really loving this whole farm idea which is so surprising to me.

The outdoor wall sconces on the shed was exactly the vibe I was going for in this corner. Sleek, simple, modern and a touch of chic with the brass detail inside. Best of all, it fit the affordable price point I was looking for when shopping for all our exterior lights but definitely doesn’t look it!

The planters were a great find. I wanted to keep the price low, and these were the best deal for the tall cement looking planters I was going for.

I added rosemary to our planters because they just smell so yummy! Even Ava enjoy’s them here. Check out Ava this morning around 9am when I first dropped the rosemary in. You can see here, the color of the doors look a little different. So far I’ve seen the color from morning til night, and while it has a subtle change to it, I love that it stays a true muted and deeper green.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post! What do you think of the progress so far? Do you have any chickens in your yard or ever thought about getting some? We are looking forward to having them lay eggs which hopefully won’t be too much longer. We are total newbies and it has been so much fun learning more about them and caring for them. Jason’s been loving his shed that stores all his larger tools along with all the gardening things we need.

Have a great weekend! Thanks again for stopping by!

Thats a beautiful color. Love the combination. Does it appear greenish in person?

      Hi Karen,

It definitely is green in person. Muted, deep, but definitely green.
