It’s the last week of August and my first fall post of the year! I can’t believe it’s already time for all things fall, even if it’s still pretty warm outside, it doesn’t mean we can’t start making the home cozy! It never fails, once the mantle is styled for the season, it’s inevitable that the rest of the home follows!

I’m so excited to work with World Market to incorporate some of their new fall pieces for our mantle today! Not quite ready for pumpkins, but not against anyone who’s ready to bust them out either;) I went with a California Casual inspired fall mantle that really flows nicely with the rest of the home and is a great transition into the fall season.
Here’s how the mantle looked before we cleared everything away:
We moved the jute rug to the covered patio and cleared the mantle to start from scratch. First I grabbed some touch up paint to freshen up some of the brick where it was needed. Then I filled and painted the old holes where the screws for the old mirror were. Once that was dry, it was time to create the simple California Casual neutral fall mantle:
World Market Fall Finds
- Natural Acacia Wood Wall Frame
- Faux Natural Meadow Grass Bunch
- Amber Glass Long Neck Vase
- not available, similar arched mirror
- Banana Leaf Cora Tote Basket
- Black And White Abstract Dots Bone Frame
- Faux Pampas Grass Stem Set of 2
- Oversized Ivory Angled Stripe Lumbar Pillow
- Brushed Gold Metal Contemporary Pillar Candleholder
- Velvet Throw Pillow
5 tips on creating a beautiful neutral mantle with interest
- Add architectural interest. Arched mirrors are trending and for good reason, and it really helps add interest to a neutral palette.
2. Play with different shapes and sizes. I loved mixing in new and old vases with different sizes, shapes, and finishes to create dimension which really makes things more interesting!
3. Height matters! Haha. Not in every case, but with mantle styling, it does! The frames are a perfect example. Imagine if everything sitting on the mantle was all the same height. Wouldn’t that be boring and not interesting at all? Yea, so make sure to mix it up to keep the eyes moving.
4. Texture texture and more texture. I grabbed this pretty basket because I really loved all that chunky texture. And then there’s more texture in the pillows, the diy turkish rug art in the acacia wood frame, the diy textured paint and mudding I added to an old vase, and even in the beautiful black and white bone inlay frame.
5. Adding in some muted colors gives a neutral mantle some life. I love the muted colors on the turkish rug art, the pretty copper velvet pillow, and the Deb Presutto Fine Art . I have a few of her work around our home and love!
Bonus: Adding in a diy or 2 makes the design a little more personal and special!
