A few months ago I stumbled on the cutest little greenhouse and it was too cute to pass up. Today, I can tell you, growing plants in a greenhouse takes some practice.
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already saw me share this! Jason was at Costco without me, and as soon as he saw this, he rushed home, and told me I had to come see this greenhouse. He knows me so well. I think I was mostly surprised that it was him convincing me I “needed” a greenhouse. Long story short, we went back to Costco with our truck, and the rest is history.
I shared a first tour of the greenhouse here.
I’m a newbie to this whole greenhouse situation, and to be honest it’s been a bit of a learning curve for me. I have since learned different people use greenhouses for different reasons. I’ve seen some pretty cool ones that are solely for growing their veggies and herbs. For me, this is 100% just for fun, and half the fun is learning how to grow plants successfully in the greenhouse, currently in the summer time. The other half is styling and restyling the space of course.
Full disclosure, a good amount of the plants I’ve brought into the greenhouse have either been scorched from the sun or had to be taken out right away to avoid that from happening.
Here’s a tour of the greenhouse today!
Information on our exact greenhouse
This greenhouse is called the Yardistry Cedar Greenhouse for those of you interested. I just checked, and it looks like it’s currently in stock here.
Features:
- Double-Wall Polycarbonate Windows
- Heat Sensitive, Automatic Roof Vent Opener Maintains Temperature and Humidity
- 7.8 ’ L x 6.7 ‘ W x 7.7 ‘ H
- 6’ High Sidewalls
- 32” High Cedar Base Walls
Under the table top is a little super inexpensive DIY curtain for tucking away things I don’t really want visible like soil, extra pots, tools, a pipe with a water line to a sink I will eventually add in here, etc. It’s been a few months and so far it’s been a great addition.
This is the back wall, and essentially the first thing you see when you come in, so I wanted to have things right here that make me smile. Specifically that garden sign, plants obviously, and some bust planters. Do you have a favorite part?
Big lessons I have learned about a greenhouse so far
So a few things I have learned in owning our greenhouse for a few months now is:
- first and foremost, not all plants are going to like it in the greenhouse, so do your research.
- secondly, some of my plants need some shade from the summer afternoon harsh sunlight and I am currently shopping around for that.
- third, I have to keep an eye on the temperature in the greenhouse, and just make sure it’s not getting too hot during those really hot summer days.
- lastly, I AM NO PRO, and it will take me a while to figure this all out, and that’s ok! This is all for fun, and I really enjoy plants!
It’s only a few months in, but I am still really enjoying our greenhouse addition. I think I’ll enjoy it even more as I get better at keeping plants happy in here. I will keep you updated on how things are going in the next few months. Be sure to follow along here, and never miss an upcoming post!
