DIY: fun personalized wall mounted coat hanger

Hey there lovelies! How’s your week going so far? Slow? Too fast? Amazing? Unadventurous? Oddly, there are days when I can somehow feel all these things in one day! Talk about crazy, right?! That is a good word to describe me. LOL! I think we can all get this way at times, right? No? Maybe it’s just me! But, seriously, I really felt a lot of different emotions today (except by the time this goes up, it would technically be yesterday) and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I was a little lonely and excited at the same time! One thing I was able to do today that wasn’t a usual thing for me, was go out during the day. Alone.. Just me, myself and I. I don’t really like being alone, youngest child syndrome ;), but I was excited to have some alone time! Confusing, right?! Well my in-laws are in town for another few days and they wanted to take the littles out for a few hours so I was left thinking “what should I do with myself (feeling a little overwhelmed as it was last-minute)?” And that’s when I remembered I’ve been wanting to go to Hobby Lobby. So, off I went and walked out with 2 very cute items that I knew I would find a home for together since it just seemed only right that they stick together. A wooden “hello” sign and a metal rustic/industrial basket were my finds. These were both a part of their 50% off deals of the week.. I’d say it was meant to be because a mix of woods and metal just excites me and of course a good deal!!!

So, I had a few ideas brewing but the one that finally stuck was taking the hooks off my current Ikea wall mounted coat hanger to create a one of a kind piece with some left over wood pallets and a little chalk paint.. Oo, and what do you know, another Ikea Hack! Now, this is an exception to the rule “if it aint broke, don’t fix it”.. Cause honestly, this Ikea coat hanger as is, is totally simple yet pretty.. I did have the coat hanger mounted in this same place and you can see that here. I just wanted to have some fun so.. Cant stop, won’t stop, right?!!

If you’re curious how I did the base with the pallet boards, check out my post here and here. The only thing I did different was add 2 extra pallets and hung it horizontal instead of vertical.. And I also painted it with chalk paint which I just stumbled upon at Wal-Mart a few months ago.. Yes I bought it a few months ago and just busted it open for the first time today. Story of my life! I also gave it a quick sanding and slight distress before adding clear wax on top. The paint was called Waverly Inspirations in Ivory and the wax is the same brand in Clear. This was my first time using chalk paint other than chalkboard paint, if that counts.. and I just loved how easy it was to work with and how easily it came off my hands when it came time to wash it off. The rest is pretty self-explanatory, right?!

One thing I was reminded of with this project and hope you can see also, is that we don’t have to go above and beyond our means to create a home we love to live in. Also, we don’t have to lose style when making the home functional, or vice versa! I really love the statement this simple change has brought to our little entryway and how functional it is! I literally could not stop staring at it cause it’s just so darn cute, don’t you think?! I was most impressed at how affordable and simple it was to do this project and yet what a fun statement piece it is! And it has totally transformed our little entry, giving it more interest! Now, every time I come down the stairs, I’ll have something pretty to look at too! Well what do you think of it?? This project had you at “hello”, duh! ;P Well, hope to hear from you: comment in the top bar! Have an awesome day friends!

Hi Samantha, I just happen to have found some of these in my hubby’s tool box. But my hubby said you can just go to your local hardware store and these should be found where all the anchors are found. Hope this helps!

Hi! I’m an editor for Remodelaholic.com and am writing to request permission to use a photo from your wall mounted coat hanger post.
We hope to feature this in an upcoming round up about styling farmhouse entryways. We would include a backlink and clear credit to you via the name of your blog.

Additionally, we routinely publish round-up style posts on our site and if you’re willing to allow us to use one photo from other posts you’ve done, we would love to add you to our directory of sites to feature. As a bonus, your site would then be on our radar for possible Facebook shares as well.

Please let me know if this is satisfactory. Thanks for your consideration!

Hi. It is my first time ever doing a DIY project and I was wondering how do you use the chalk paint and what do you do afterwards to set it, if anything. Thank you. Hope to hear back from you. I am excited to start this as my first piece.
