Spring is in full swing, which means it’s time to work on our gardening skills. Are you a gardener, not so much, but can still appreciate a well kept garden, or are you totally not into it at all? While we do have 3 raised bed herb gardens, a gang load of houseplants, and even more outdoor plants that seem to do well.. I’m pretty sure it has little to do with a green thumb and more to do with a faithful sprinkler system, sticking to watering day, and lots of Cali sunshine. I’m a total novice when it comes to the garden, and thought I’d share how a newbie eases into gardening along with sharing a tour of our green house we added out here a month ago.

If you are looking to start an herb garden this spring/summer, I think the perfect way to start is by adding some herbs to small planters.
I say to start small, because if they die, well hey, at least you didn’t spend much. I love Target’s selection right now with their planters. They come in multiple sizes, and lots of different styles!
Gardening is way more fun, when your tools are pretty! I love this gardening tool set and these pretty garden gloves.
I have been using the Miracle Gro potting mix for years and my plants love it. And if you are looking to jazz up the look, I love this Smith & Hawken copper and black herb marker set. It’s both practical and stylish! I’m a big fan actually of the whole Smith & Hawken line at Target. Both the quality and design of their products are amazing.
I had to grab this beverage tub and decided to repurpose it for my soil when repotting plants.
I always make sure to have extra bags of soil tucked away. I used a curtain wire and clips to hang this drop cloth (I didn’t even have to sew) to have some space to hide things away under here. It’s an affordable and practical solution, and took about 30 minutes to do!
A tip for your herb garden
Some herbs do well in full sun (I’ve found that my rosemary, basil and thyme thrives in full sun), while others are happier in part sunlight (my parsley definitely does better in part sunlight). Be sure to look up your herbs before deciding where to home them.
We’ve only had our green house for a little while now, and this is my first time trying to grow some herbs in here, so I’ll definitely let you know how that goes. Like I said, a novice. But I really love the look of styling the herbs on the tabletop and shelves. Shop the planter pots I used for our little herb garden below.
The garden lover’s gift idea this Mother’s Day!
Target is my go to one stop shop for finding gifts for family and friends. I feel like isn’t it everyones?! Well, I found this cute canvas gardening tote, which totally looks more expensive than the price tag, and thought I would share a garden lovers awesome gift idea! I think a mix of these items below would be perfect for the gardening mama’s in your life this Mother’s Day or any day. I really appreciate how great the quality is of all these items and at great price points! Anything here on your wishlist?
I hope you enjoyed this post and if you haven’t already, I hope you’ll also go outside and get your hands in some soil! Make sure to check out the outdoor section at Target for some great finds as well as some inspiration for your outdoor spaces!
